Firewise USA® is a voluntary program that provides a framework for communities to reduce their wildfire risks. Administered by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), this program empowers neighbors to work together in reducing their wildfire risk.

Tips for Landowners

Create Defensible Space

  • 0-5 feet: Keep area clear of combustible materials
  • 5-30 feet: Maintain lean, clean, and green vegetation
  • 30-100 feet: Reduce fuel and create spacing between plants

Home Hardening

  • Use fire-resistant roofing materials
  • Install ember-resistant vents
  • Clear gutters regularly
  • Screen or enclose decks

Maintenance Schedule

  • Spring: Clear dead vegetation
  • Summer: Monitor and maintain defensible space
